Reps
20 (10 per foot)
This exercise builds: 40 Shots
How It Works
  1. If you do not have a goalkeeper, place one cone 1 metre inside each goalpost to create a target area in each corner.
  2. Start on the edge of the penalty area with the ball.
  3. Drive towards the penalty spot.
  4. As you reach the penalty spot, finish with the inside of your foot, aiming into the target area inside the cone.
  5. Complete 10 shots towards the right corner, then 10 shots towards the left corner.
  6. Focus on finishing quickly rather than generating maximum power.
Match Situation

Around 85% of goals are scored from inside the penalty area, making these situations essential to master. You may only get one clear chance like this in a match — when it comes, you want to finish it. The way to make that happen is through repetition, until the finish becomes automatic and you can execute quickly and accurately without thinking.

Coaching Cues
  • Quick, compact swing: Use a short and fast backswing to get the shot away quickly.
  • Prioritise precision: Aim for the corner and focus on clean contact rather than maximum power.
  • Stay composed: Keep your body balanced and your head steady as you finish.
Progression
  • Once you can consistently score all 10 shots, gradually increase the power of your finish.
  • Keep the backswing short and quick even as you increase power.
  • The goal is to generate more power without making your preparation slower or more obvious.
