Why This Exercise

A staple in high-level strength programs when the goal is to build raw lower-body power. By removing the balance requirement, you can heavily overload the quads and glutes. This builds the foundational muscle and force capacity needed for explosive accelerations, without adding unnecessary fatigue to your lower back and core.

Coaching Cues
  • Keep your feet slightly turned out and your whole foot firmly connected to the platform.
  • Press the force through the mid-foot or heel and stop just before the knees lock out completely.
  • Suck your entire lower back and glutes into the seat, they cannot lift off a millimeter.
